Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how He did it. Because He never lost sight of where He was headed…

—Hebrews 12:2 (MSG)

When I was younger, I was terrified of the dark. I remember running from the house to the car at night while one of my brothers stood at the door. Just when I thought I was safe, they would slam it shut and lock me out. In those moments, my heart pounded because fear told me something was lurking in the dark. But the truth? The only things out there were animals more afraid of me than I was of them. Fear lied.

Fear is believing something is there when it isn’t. Faith is believing in something you can’t yet see. Both are believing in something that hasn’t come into your peripheral view. Both are believing in something that has not taken place. But the difference lies in where you place your focus. If your eyes are fixed on fear, you’ll shrink back. If your eyes are fixed on faith, you’ll move forward with hope.

Even Jesus felt the weight of fear and pain, yet He never lost sight of His mission. He endured the cross because His focus was on the joy set before Him. He chose faith over fear.

The enemy will always try to use fear to distract you, to keep you from walking in your calling. But faith propels you into the future God has written for you. Look at Moses, Joseph, Mary, Paul—all faced moments of fear, but they chose faith. And because they did, their stories became part of God’s greater story that continues to impact us today.

I don’t know what season you are in, but maybe fear has been whispering lies, holding you back. Friend, God is calling you to shift your focus. This chapter may feel like an ending, but where something ends, God begins. The cross wasn’t the end—it was the beginning.

Personal Application:

Where has fear been lying to you?

What step of faith is God asking you to take, even if you don’t know where your foot will land?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to take my eyes off fear and fix them on You. Remind me that fear is a lie, but faith is truth anchored in You. Give me courage to step forward into my calling, even when I cannot see the full path. Thank You that You walk with me and that my story is still being written. In Jesus’ name, amen.
