Fight With Strategy

2 Corinthians 10:3–4 (NIV) “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.”

There’s a scene in the Creed films that echoes a powerful spiritual truth. Adonis Creed tells Rocky Balboa, “You fight, I’ll fight.” It was more than encouragement—it was a vow to stand in the battle together.

In the sequel, Creed faced Drago, the son of the man who killed his father. The first time, Creed fought with emotion and revenge. He lost. But when he fought again, he changed his strategy. Instead of trying to match Drago’s strength, Creed trained to withstand the blows. His victory didn’t come from brute force—it came from endurance, pain tolerance, and persistence. He fought smarter, not harder.

Isn’t that exactly how we must fight spiritually?

We have a real spiritual enemy—but it’s not your ex, your coworker, your spouse, or even the person who deeply hurt you. Our fight is not against people; it’s against unseen spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). The real enemy lies beneath our feet. He is one that can go unseen and hides behind people. He is throwing some hefty punches and it may be knocking us down or wearing us out. And like Creed, if we fight with pride and emotion, we lose. But if we fight with God’s strategy—prayer, worship, the Word, and the power of the Holy Spirit—we win.

Even though we have a real spiritual enemy, we also have a real Heavenly Father that has not only equipped us to fight these battles, but to win these battles. God hasn’t just asked us to fight spiritual battles—He’s equipped us to win them. When we fight from our identity in Christ, we don’t react to life’s blows—we’re prepared for them. We begin living on offense, not defense. We become resilient. We gain ground.

Reflection

Are you fighting battles from a place of reaction and emotion—or from strategy and strength in Christ? Have you been mistaking people as your enemy, instead of recognizing the spiritual warfare behind the conflict?

Application

This week, write down one area where you feel spiritually attacked or emotionally drained. Ask the Holy Spirit for a specific strategy—not just relief, but how to respond, endure, and overcome.

Consider journaling a prayer or Scripture related to that area. Use it as a weapon.

Prayer

Father, I confess that I often react in my flesh instead of responding in Your Spirit. Help me to fight the right battles with the right weapons. Teach me to endure, to stand firm, and to gain ground in the Spirit. Strengthen me for the fight—not to prove anything to the enemy, but to walk in the victory You’ve already won for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
