Let Go of the Vision

Proverbs 16:9 “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”

“Trinity, you are not pushy. You are a woman that makes things happen. However, God is wanting you to give Him back control. Let go.” I didn’t have to have it all figured out. I didn’t have to make things happen. I just had to let go of the reins and give God the responsibility. I had to learn to trust God with what I was so dearly holding onto. I am a planner and I am usually five years ahead. My every step, every interaction, every plan I concocted developed from the vision I had for my life. I had my plans and tried everything for those plans to come to fruition. I carried discouragement for many years. I cried, yelled, got angry, threw tantrums because my vision stayed exactly that...a vision. I am so grateful for a loving Father who doesn't want us to stay discouraged. God did have vision for my life and even though it was different than what I envisioned, it didn't make it any less good! In fact, His vision is proving to be the best thing for my life! I want to share a few truths with you today to help you let go and allow God to direct your steps to living the best life!

Dreams do not come true...if not centered in Jesus. We can attempt to do things on our own, but if God is not involved, we cannot expect to move forward, or even for God to bless the plan we created. He directs our steps, if we allow Him to, in order for us to live the best life. The best life is full of purpose, of love, of prosperity, of hope, and so much more. So, the question may be, am I trying to make this vision of mine happen in my strength or am I allowing God to put the right people, the right opportunities, open the right doors without my hand all over it?

God has walked our path before us and knows every step in front of us. He knows where the good and the blessings lie on that path. So, when we allow God to direct our steps, our decisions, and our choices, He is able to lead us down this path the best way. We can trust that God knows the right steps for us to take and will give us what we need to take them. Proverbs 16:9 says, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” Yes, we have the freedom to make our own plans, but let’s allow God to lead the way. If we want to live fruitful lives, we will surrender our vision to Him. I believe God plants desires in our hearts, but He also offers us the best way for those desires to come to pass.

Lastly, we have to surrender the canvas. I wonder how many times the picture you painted was shattered? How many times were you frustrated because the picture of life was disappointing? God does not show us the whole picture. We have to trust Him and give Him back the paintbrush. I am sure we all have a canvas that we have painted in our head. Maybe, it is time to let go of this picture. If I wanted my God-given dream, I had to surrender my vision for my life. The dream had to die, in order for God to ignite a God-given dream. God wants to fulfill our dreams, but we may have to dethrone our dream. Chase God first before chasing the dream.

My dear friends, it's time to let go of our vision. It doesn't mean it's not important to God. It doesn't mean that this vision won't happen, but we have to create space for our Heavenly Father to work in our lives. He has such a bigger, better, more lovely vision for our lives, but we are too stuck on what we have envisioned, we may miss it! Let's walk with our hands open, as if we are to receive. This position is amazing because we are positioning ourselves for whatever God wants to place in our hands, but we are also not holding tightly to something that may not be meant for us. As we are in the position of receiving, it is the same position of letting go.
