Strength in My Weakness

2 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV) "That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

“Your strength is your perseverance,” a friend once told me outside of church one Sunday morning. The words stuck with me, because although people often call me “strong,” I’ve never felt strong. The truth is, I didn’t overcome anything on my own—I overcame by pursuing God through every struggle.

One Sunday, after a painful week that left me numb and heartbroken, I stepped into my new role as a children’s ministry leader. I smiled through the pain and taught a lesson about seeing ourselves through the Father’s eyes. We made a craft where each child wrote the opposite of a negative word spoken over them on a mirror—reminding them of what God says about them.

My word was “unworthy.” I wrote “worthy.”

That day, God used my own lesson to minister to me. He reminded me that my identity and strength come from Him, not from my ability to keep it together. Later, my pastor told me, “You don’t need to be strong today. God is strong for you.” She quoted 2 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV) "That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."

We often think we must create our own strength to survive life’s battles. But we were never meant to carry every heavy load. God steps in when we’re at the end of ourselves, lifting us and carrying us through.

Even when it looks like you’re walking alone—during grief, heartbreak, or silent tears—God is there. He is here now. I thank God for the discouraging moments, the painful moments, the moments of disappointment and despair, because in those moments is when He shows me how close He really is. You

may not be strong enough to carry what burdens you, but He is. And the battle you face isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual. That’s why we need His supernatural strength and weapons to overcome.

Stop trying to muster up your own strength. Lean fully into God. Let Him fight for you. In His hands, your weakness becomes the very place His power shines the brightest.

Personal Application:

Where in your life are you still trying to “push through” in your own strength instead of leaning on God’s?

Your strength isn’t in how hard you fight—it’s in how fully you depend on God.

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that I’ve tried to fight some battles in my own strength. Today, I choose to lean into You. Carry my burdens, fight my battles, and be my strength when I am weak. Remind me that You are always with me—especially in the moments I feel most alone. Amen.
