Trusting God With Every Step

Proverbs 3:5 (NLT) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.”

In 2018, I traveled to Belize with my church, led by my pastor, Heath Hiatt. Unbeknownst to me, the well-organized schedule for the trip had completely unraveled. Plans made months in advance fell apart. Yet Pastor Heath kept moving forward—trusting God with every unknown step. From my view, it seemed flawless, because I wasn’t aware of what had gone wrong. I simply trusted Pastor Heath, and with that trust came peace.

But then came the gentle challenge in my spirit: “If you can trust your pastor that much, why is it so hard to trust Me?”

That question changed everything.

Many of us struggle to trust God fully, especially when things don’t go as planned. But why? Perhaps it’s because we don’t really know Him. Trust grows from intimacy. The more we know someone’s character, the easier it is to trust them. And that’s what God invites us into—deep intimacy with Him.

Abraham’s story exemplifies this kind of trust. God asked Abraham to do the unthinkable—sacrifice his son Isaac. Yet Abraham obeyed, not because he understood, but because he knew the One who asked. Isaac, too, trusted his father, because he knew his heart.

Like Abraham and Isaac, we are called to trust the Father—even when the mountain ahead looks steep, or when the outcome is uncertain.

Personal Application:

Is God asking you to trust Him with something you hold dear?

Have you placed your future, relationships, or finances in His hands?

Do you trust Him with the small, everyday details?

God is not careless with your life. Like my friend who drove slowly with furniture in her truck to protect what I valued, God moves with intentional care over the things that matter most to you. If He appears to be moving slowly, it’s only because He’s safeguarding your prized possessions—your dreams, your healing, your breakthrough.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for being trustworthy even when I don’t understand. Help me to know You more intimately so I can trust You more deeply. Teach me to rest in Your pace and trust in Your care. I surrender my plans, my fears, and my most valued possessions into Your hands. Amen.
