We Don't Need All the Details

ree

Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

"I want to know ALL the details" I thought this when I was in the process of purchasing my first home. When I first began the process, I was working with a mortgage lender that didn't seem to have the same goals as I did. They were more experience in selling houses in an urban area, where I was looking for a home in a more rural area. The first few months working with this lender was difficult and ended up not being a great fit. I already had trust issues, but with the lender not communicating the correct information, I lost all trust in them.

My realtor suggested I work with a different mortgage lender that has more experience in a rural area. So, I switched to another mortgage lender, but even though I had a new lender to work with, I carried the mistrust over. Let me tell you, buying a house is very stressful. But trying to control someone else that has all your plans and answers in their hands is even more stressful. I learned something from that experience...I didn't need all the details.

We have a very real spiritual enemy and one of the tactics he loves to use is to get us to question God, question what He is doing, and question life itself. He does this by instilling the desire to know all the details. Oldest trick in the book, quite literally. Genesis 3:1 "The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"

"Did God really say..." If you reflect on your thought process, I wonder how many times do you hear this question in your mind. He questioned the woman, leading her to question what she really heard. Even from the very beginning, the enemy was tempting us with knowing every detail. Having all the details isn't bad, but it doesn't create space for faith. It doesn't allow God to reveal His trustworthy character. It doesn't allow for God to be our Sovereign God. If we waited until we receive every answer or every detail, friends, we would not move very far. We would get stuck in our anxiousness, our fear, or ourselves. God doesn't ask us to move forward with details, He asks us to move forward in faith.

Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." When God asks us to move, stay, remain silent, speak up, He isn't asking us to wait to understand what it is He is asking. He wants us to trust Him. Trust His character, trust His leading, trust His heart for us. Why is that? Because He holds all the answers and all the details. God is not limited as we are, He knows a whole lot more than we do. Trust it!

Looking back, my lender had more knowledge than I did. I wasn't an expert in working with mortgages, banks, or realtors. I didn't understand the housing market or rates, but I didn't need to. Instead of knocking at my lender's door every 10 mins (figuratively), I should have practiced patience, grace, and love. Friends, let go of the desire to know more and understand, but seek God and trust Him to do what He is really good at...being God!
